The NBC sitcom Friends first aired in 1994. During its ten year run, it became one of the most popular shows in television history. Ranking in the top twenty-five of all time, the sitcom focused on the lives of six friends who lived above the coffee shop that was also their hang-out known as Central Perk.

Department 56 introduced the small, resin subseries as part of the Hot Properties umbrella though collectors consider it to be a natural for Christmas In the City. The initial offering in 2022 was made available as an Early Release Exclusive for Platinum Key Dealers. The items were retired in 2023.
